When anti-salmon farm campaigner Alexandra Morton spoke to the federal Standing Committee on fisheries and oceans, she included numerous pieces of misinformation about sea lice treatments, disease and the effects of salmon farming on wild salmon. Two days later, much of her testimony was corrected by Dr. Mark Sheppard, head of B.C.'s fish health program.
Hearing the two testimonies provides an interesting comparison - an opportunity to get answers to the common misconceptions put forward by activists. So, next time your hear a comment like Ms Morton's "Now, the question about drug resistance in lice ... it's inevitable." you can see the other side: Dr Sheppard says "To make such a claim, in my opinion, is misleading and quite frankly, irresponsible."
