Responsibility for regulating BC's aquaculture industry will soon be the authority of the federal government: previously, regulatory authority was shared between the province of British Columbia and the government of Canada. In preparation for the transfer, the federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans is holding meetings in Campbell River to get input on a number of regulatory considerations. Salmon farmers, as well as shellfish growers and other members of the aquaculture community, First Nations, community representatives and members of environmental organizations will attend the sessions.
