If you haven't been eating farmed salmon, consider these figures: a 6 oz. portion of farmed Atlantic salmon contains 3,650 milligrams of DHA and EPA Omega-3 fatty acids compared to 300 mg in two Omega-3 eggs. The attached article written by dietician Samara Felesky-Hunt and published in the Calgary Herald highlights farmed salmon as an excellent source of Omega-3 fatty acids. The article reviews recommendations from the American Dietetic Association and Dieticians of Canada which state adults should consume 500 mg of long-chain Omega-3 fatty acids each day. Additionally, Felesky-Hunt says that farmed Atlantic salmon "is a good source of many vitamins such as vitamin A, B and D. It also contains minerals such as iodine, iron, zinc and phosphorus." Sounds like another great reason to have BC farmed salmon for dinner tonight.
