Cruise Line selects Salmon Farm Tours
Campbell River, May 24, 2007 - This summer tourists from the Regent Cruise lines stopping in Campbell River will have the opportunity to visit an operating Salmon Farm.
"We're extremely delighted to have our tours chosen by the cruise lines," says Stacey Marsh, Community and Member Relations Director with the BC Salmon Farmers Association. "Our tours in 2006 were a huge hit with the public and we have found that people want more information about salmon farming in British Columbia."
The BC Salmon Farmers submitted the tour idea earlier this year, and received confirmation that the tours had been selected as one of the choices for people stopping off in Campbell River.
"Visitors to our area are amazed by the natural beauty that surrounds us and they are also interested in the people that live and work here," explains Marsh. "We expect that our guests on these tours will be impressed with how we raise our homegrown salmon."
In 2006, farmed salmon sales generated $450 million, making it BC's largest agricultural export. The BC salmon farming industry's contribution to the economies of coastal communities is significant; with an economic output of over $800 million and total employment of over 6,000.
